Pink 'bug' helps breast cancer patients

Breast cancer patients travelling long distances to Melbourne hospitals for treatment are now able to experience the support services provided at The Think Pink Foundation’s Living Centre as a result of Pink Hygiene Solutions donating a pink ‘bug’ Volkswagen Beetle.

The Pink car, driven by trained volunteers will provide a quality courtesy car service transporting patients and their carers to The Living Centre to enjoy support such as: speaking with the Breast Care Nurse and Peer Support Volunteers, relaxation massage, salon services, internet access or light refreshments. They will then be chauffeured safely back to their hospital.  

“We are absolutely thrilled to enable patients and their carers the opportunity to visit our Living Centre and not to have to worry about, city traffic, losing their hospital carpark or paying additional parking fees,” said Irene Hendel, Chair of The Think Pink Foundation and Founder of The Living Centre.

“As a result of the devastation that breast cancer can cause, many of the women who come to us are extremely grateful for the free and practical assistance we bring to their lives,” Mrs Hendel said.

Pink Hygiene Solutions’ Managing Director Greg Worthington-Eyre said: “The donation of the Pink bug is a natural fit with our organisation’s philosophy of supporting good health and good hygiene solutions for the community.”

Lead by Director of Operations, Samantha Schembri, a team of 30 dedicated volunteers from all different professions are committed to supporting this wonderful and unique facility. The Think Pink Foundation’s Living Centre provides services to breast cancer patients and their families free of charge, at all stages of the journey battling breast cancer, including financial assistance, specialist nursing and peer support, seminars, a wig library, guided meditation, art therapy, even emergency accommodation.
